Defending the Faith

Now that NBC refused to pull the Madonna concert scenes mocking the crucifixion, it has proved beyond
the shadow of a doubt it's lack of respect for Christians and Christianity. NBC knows that there will be
no real retribution for their actions and that perhaps, is the saddest part of this story. Obviously NBC wouldn't dare portray Muhammad or Muslims in a negative light nor would they allow anyone to do so.
Why? Fear. The fear of real retribution, the kind that comes from car bombs, suicide bombers, and be- headings. It is this fear that some Muslims have instilled in organizations like NBC that makes them
so "sensitive" to their feelings and so callous to ours. We Christians must make it clear that freedom of
speech does not include the public mockery of our faith, not through thuggery but through public display of our convictions.

Despite the good efforts of organizations like the AFA, The Christian Coalition and other like groups the open disrespect of Christians in general and Catholics in particular continues unabated. We as individuals must be proactive in defending our faith. The one on one encounters are the small battles
that must be won. When someone rolls their eyes when they here about conservative Christians they
must be confronted as to why they are so dismissive and that their attitude of intolerance (a little irony)
is personally hurtful, and would they be such in front of a Muslim. When someone describes themselves
as a "recovering Catholic" confront them ask them why they feel that your faith is a disease that needs
to be recovered from. And push our clergy to speak out against anti Christian bias.

We must stand up for ouselves and win the small battles then the big ones will be easier.
